My tank has been cycling for around a month, give or take, and I took the water in to get tested. The Ammonia is .25 ppm, and the nitrites are .50-1.0 ppm. When will my tank be finished cycling?
What are your nitrates?
It's impossible to give you a specific time frame, but your tank will be cycled when you have 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and above 0 nitrates.
Is this a fish in cycle?
The Nitrates are above zero. I wasn't told the specifics, but it was a fishless cycle until I put in a rescue Amano shrimp in the tank. It's a 5g.
Is this where you are taking your water to the fish store to test? Agreed - one shrimp in a tank is barely measurable if at all.
Can you move the Amano to a different tank? Shrimp don't do well in cycling tanks, and that's not much of a bioload to cycle with.
I would definitely not cycle with shrimp in it. Can you cancel your order and order more when the tank is cycled?
I would remove the amano and do fishless cycle. He's not going to help you cycle quickly, but you'll kill him if you add ammonia to the tank.
You still have ammonia and nitrites, so I don't think you're super close to finished yet.
Fish food isn't great for fishless cycling as it doesn't break down at a constant rate and you can't control how much ammonia is produced. You can buy pure ammonia from most every hardware store.
Yes, you can use TSS+, but you can't add anything to the tank for 2 weeks.
