When Adding Water After A 1 Gallon Waterchange Should Treat Water?

Another newbie question. When you do the normal partial water change should you treat the water ?And with what ? I also have a 5 gallon tank for about a month and a week. Water readings have been great. The only one that is always up is the nitrates. Have 3 little guppies, 4 neon tetra, 1 tiny sucker fish. All fish seem happy all the time.

Treat with prime treat for the amount you take out( unless you are using a python which I think is impossible with a 5 gallon lol). I believe you are overstocked. Especially if the sucker fish is a pleco.

Whenever you do a water change, you should always treat the new water. I recommend Prime by Seachem. Follow instructions on the bottle.

Just so I say this right I meant with a python you treat the whole volume of the tank with Prime. When using buckets or whatever you treat the amount of water in the buckets I’m sorry if I sounded a little confused

I think I get it. The sucker isn't a pleco he is only about a inch long. You are probably right though there is too much fish. Might put one or two in the 10 Gallon that I have cycling. So add something like tetra safe start. Now I thought of something else. The tank has been cycling for about a week or so and the water level is dropping. I need to add more water. Should I add anything to the water when I add to cycling tank?

Add prime with every pure water change from your tap...a few drops per gallon is good since the instructions are for larger changes.

You should add Prime or equivalent to the water that you add to the cycling tank. To help the cycling you could use Stability as per directions on the bott6le.

Nope

If you're treating water for chlorine during partial water changes for a 5 gallon tank, try to get a 1cc syringe with 0.1cc marks from either a pharmacy or Amazon.

If you do a 50% PwC, that's only 2.5g you are replacing. That requires 0.25cc of Prime.

You had asked if Tetra Safe Start (TSS) will do the same as treating with Prime. TSS is a bottle of beneficial bacteria used to jump start the nitrogen cycle. Prime is a water conditioner primarily used to remove chlorine and can detox ammonia also.

1cc if Prime treats 10g, while 5cc of Prime treats 50 gallon of water.

When you say you have a "tiny sucker fish", are you speaking of a pleco? If so do you know what kind?
