I have 5 cherry barbs and I noticed this morning that one of the females has a large red area (almost like a rash) and 2-3 white spots.I not sure whether it's a parasite or something but I though I'd find out.

Sorry I couldn't get a good enough picture.

I think that could be a dennison barb.
It's definitely a female cherry barb

The reason your filter is powerful is because it is an internal power filter. I have the same, but different brand and different look. It keeps my water crystal clear no matter what.

Does it look like a lesion or sore? That would be red spot disease, but she may have just gotten stuck somewhere and rubbed it raw..

She looks otherwise healthy and plump, so I'm guessing it's an injury. Do lots of water changes to keep it clean and keep an eye on her to make sure it heals and doesn't develop a bacterial or fungal infection.

Will do water changes. It looks red raw but it has a few white spots on it.

Ok, maybe she just scratched herself somewhere in the tank and just got an infection?
I hope so. Hopefully it's not a parasite or ich.
