What’s Wrong With My Cory

One of my cories (not sure if it’s a false or real julii) has a whitish area and I don’t know what it is. It’s very active, playing with its friends and eating. None of the other cories have this.

White patches like that often appear with columnaris which is bad. I recommend you treat the tank with Maracyn 2 or triple sulfa medication while it's in its early stages.

Thank you. If I treat the entire tank does that mean I lose the cycle?

I don't think so with thee Maracyn 2, but the triple sulfa medication might. Read both lables carefully before purchase. Unfortunately Columnaris is a very stong bacteria that is hard to treat as it is. I also think Furan 2 will work as well.

The instructions for furan-2 day’s to remove all filter media and not just carbon but I read another post on here that doesn’t say to remove anything but carbon so do I have to remove the media? I have many tanks and use the same nets and water change stuff for all of them how do I disinfect everything? No other tank is showing signs as of now but I will treat as a precaution

Is it possible that this guy got himself in a tight spot and has just scraped himself. I would want to be totally sure that it isn't just an injury that will heal with pristine water before I would add medications as a precaution.

as always just my humble opinion

How long should I wait? He is the only cory sick and acting normal. I moved them to this tank from another one last week and they’ve been spawning so there is a lot of chasing going on.

I would give it a few more days and hopefully someone else has seen this same thing and will stop by with more information. I am not saying that it isn't Columnaris but it seem like lately every time a problem is posted it is automatically diagnosed as Columnaris.

Cory's are famous for trying to wedge themselves in places they really shouldn't try to get into and do cause damage to themselves in the process. Most of the time pristine water will prevent the damage turning into a major problem.

There are those that don't agree with me and that is fine but I would want to know for sure before I took a chance of doing more damage than good if all it took was really pristine water to take care of the situation. The medications recommended may be perfectly fine and even if not needed maybe they will do no harm but I just don't think one should add something if it isn't necessary.
