What’s Wrong With My Adf

About 3 weeks ago I got a African Dwarf Frog, he was doing good but even recently he has gotten a red bump above his left eye, I have found nothing about it anywhere. Yesterday I noticed that the bump was turning white and he had two red streaks underneath his head, one on each side. Can anyone tell me what’s wrong and how I can help him?

How big is the tank? What kind of decorations do you have in there?

The tank is about 7 gallons, I have a bridge and a plastic plant decoration, should I change it to silk? (Working on the pictures )

I had another plant but it broke while I was washing it

I’d skip silk and go straight to live plants. What are your parameters? Is the tank cycled?

What live plant do you think I should put in? The tank is cycled.

Sounds like the adf got cut by the plastic plant and bacteria started growing (white stuff on eye)

Good plants for ADFs are tall plants. Anything they can use to climb to the top of the tank to get some air and move around.

Ok

Thank you guys so much I will go out today and buy some live plants

Should I treat the bacteria or just the live plants and see what happens

I'm not too sure on how to treat the infection, but if you say that it's starting to change I would look into it. Live plants can help with water and living conditions, but they won't heal an injury.

But water changes will. Lots and lots of fresh, clean water helps heal wounds. Increasing water changes from once a week to every other day (or every day if you can) will promote healing. Obviously you don't have to change the water every day under normal circumstances, this is just recommended while healing an injury.

I have a 2.5g that's going to be empty soon and I think I'm going to sell it and use the money to upgrade to another big tank. I want a couple so bad!!

Oh I definitely see the wound you're talking about. It kind of looks a bit like a blister. Poor guy.

If water changes don't help, let us know. Because we may have to treat for infection. But we will see if that's necessary or not. Water changes will do a lot to help.

oh, ow. poor little guy. I agree with the others, it looks like he hurt himself. daily or every other day water changes would be good to promote healing. the red streaks could be sepsis or a bacterial infection from the wound. i'm really not sure how to go about treating that kind of stuff. does he act normal or has his behavior changed at all? I really hope it clears up!

His behavior hasn’t really changed he still seems to like the plant, and when he’s not sitting in it he’s active or hiding under his bridge, which he’s always done

HI welcom to FishLore!!
Aw, such a cute innocent face!
I'm not sure what it is either. Other than what the others have said about keeping the water clean I don't have anything to add. I'm sorry.
Those plastic plants can be on the sharp side so I'd agree with replacing them with live or silk as well.

maggie thecat might be able to help.

Use diluted hydrogen peroxide to clean it up a bit and put a tiny dab of neosporin on it. Keep it and the water clean. Just make sure to use the neosporin that doesn't have benzocaine, just use the plain stuff.

yes, hydrogen peroxide and neosporin is probably a good idea. I don't know how much good it'll do if it's an internal infection, but you can try it.

Noooo! Oh, I’m so sorry for your loss. I was really hoping for a positive result. But we all know that you did what you could and were willing to do anything for his well being. That’s being a great owner!

oh no ;; i'm so sorry. it was probably a bacterial infection that went internal.

Yeah, I don't know how many parallels you can draw between humans and amphibs but those red streaks on a human would have been a strong indicator for sepsis. My best friends dad died from sepsis that the docs just could not beat.
RIP Mr Frogo. We hardly knew ye.
