I recently purchase a handful of fish but this one since I brought it home which has now been 4 days has been on the bottom of the tank and not eating. Every other fish is doing just fine. Today I woke up and it has a red dot on its scale. What can be wrong?

image.jpg I don't know if you can tell but the top fin is missing or is gone.

All the water parameters are good. I did a 50% water change 2 days ago. I have a 20gallon.

It seems to only move in the dark. And it hides all day. Under plants.

What else is in the tank with it?

    What type of pleco?
  5. PuffPuffWell Known MemberMember

    Common pleco from local petsmart

Uhh, I would rehome him. Common plecos need a very large tank or pond. What's the tank size?

There is also this long white string coming from out of it.

Right now he is not that big. I will regime him once I can

    Return the pleco
It will grow up to 14" and has a messy behavior (they poop ALOT)
    Common plecos need 150+ gallons
    What are your Water Parameters?

Bigger than 14"... More like 20"...

    From it's wound?

My parameters are perfect. I usually do my water changes every week. And I did a 50% 2 days ago. But the guppy is still under the plants and only swims or moves to another part of the tank when the light are out and it's completely dark

No. I though it was poop. But this guppy hasn't eaten. So it's just there under its belly

You need to be more specific. Like what numbers? :)

If it is white stringy poop it could be internal parasites. How long have you had it?

Before we go any farther I highly recommend getting the ill fish into a QT to prevent the illness from spreading to other fish. From the sound of this it seems like parasites of some sort.

About a week I would say. Another fish that I brought with it also died 3 days ago. It was a neon tetra

I'll take it out and QT it

Did you buy just one neon tetra?
  18. Anders247Fishlore LegendMember

I'm not surprised if it's only been a week. I would quarantine it. And treat with a suitable medication.

No I brought 3 tetras to add to my school. And 2 guppies to add to my school too.

    So I QT it now.

Yes, sounds like it could be an internal parasite, I would do what the others said and QT it. Also, putting him in a QT tank will help make sure no one is picking on it, as that would explain the hiding.
