Per fish, it is probably in the 20-30$ range.
We recently had some F1 L333 shipped in that cost almost 300$ for the lot.
I regularly spend 200-300$ at auctions.

Hard for me to believe, but my beautiful platinum butterfly koi, Miyamoto, was only 3.99. He was in the "small koi" tank at Petsmart, and I snatched him up.

I would hate to risk it though
just think if you lose it, you're out 20 bucks
if they breed successfully I could see
one mollie had over 30 fry that reached adulthood goin for three bucks each, that's a profit in my opinion

I once paid nearly 30$ for a Uaru.

Yes but it depends if your trying to make a profit or you keep fish for entertainment/amusement/calming effect etc. cause some of the more expensive fish have way more personality than mollies and platies.

but if the condititons are good then there no reason they should die

20 bucks isn't that much money if u buy 10 then its alot

but I don't plan to breed them

well I have a smaller tank so the larger fish are the more expensive ones
I stick with the cheaper ones because then I have more variety in the tank
I think its fun to breed livebearers because of the color variations the fry can be
as for more expensive fish having a better personality gouramis discus and angels are some of the more expensive ones that I know of but they don't seem to do anything they do have some different colors but they just aren't active

I think the most I have spent one fish is $20 and that was for a L52 pleco. I got 3 of them at the time. After that, the most was $14 for a galaxy rasbora.

We probably have close to 10,000$ in fish in the fishhouse.
To get to that point, we spent close to 2,000$.

Most I paid for fish were for my 7 Discus, and they were 25.00 each.
Yes, you worry about those expensive fish for sure.. but when you love a certain kind of fish, and it does cost more sometimes you just got to do it!!

I voted 35+ because of the bettas we purchased recently from a guy in Thailand.

We've paid $80 buck for a wc caribe piranha which was 10" big.
2 of our fancy plecos were $40 each at 1" big The blue panque and the blue phantom. We got those plecos a year ago.
I also paid $30 for an angelfish at a lfs...only to have it die when I couldn't get my money back. (won't be doing that again) Datnoids at 1" are $30 each but if you buy them in quantity they are cheaper.
Most african cichlids are at least $12 and range to $50 at our lfs.

If we're talking about price per 1 fish, then the most is $15 that I paid for my Gold Pearly Veiltail Angelfish, even though it was still quite small! I paid half the price that same day for my Blue Blushing Angel of the same size. But I don't regret one penny spent on any of my fish, ever

Me either...believe me, my family disagrees.

Oh yeah we bought 2 baby arrowana at $60 each. One was murdered by a 2" baby oscar. I was not impressed.
I just realized I don't buy really expensive fish...my boyfriend does.
$30 is the most I have spent.

The most I've spent was like 10 dollars (that's about how much mollies cost over here, but am not bothering with an exact exchagne rate, so that's a really rough and ready figure).

Husband bought his fancy pleco for about 50 dollars. Men are such fish-snobs, LOL.

It's all a matter of choice. For example, if someone chooses to start a marine tank, they are going to be paying over $20 for most of their fish.
If someone chooses to raise show koi, they're going to be paying hundreds, or even thousands of dollars per fish.

put if you just like to watch fish swim around in a tank at your home...the most I would pay would be around $50...and that would have to be a very healthy fish

Our feathered betta Teddy Bear went for $12 at the betta auction & is our most expensive fish so far.

One of Sting's (the singer) coy cost him 1 million euros!

My parents are getting coys (I fear the worst for the poor fish, but that's another story). You can get the smaller ones for the price of discus (about 50 dollars).

Armadillo from what I hear you are correct. There are a lot of rockers out there who you would never believe that did not use drugs. For some its just a persona that that they wear on stage. Also a lot of old timers who used to use.. are no longer doing so.
Look at KISS, I love watching Gene Simmons show. He is about as stright laced as they come.. and I would have never believed it by watching them on stage.

Please tell me that they have a pond, or at least plans to get a 100+ gallon tank.

Small koi for $50??? Are they buying show quality? With how readily koi breed, the "junk" koi go for $5 or less around here. They're very pretty fish, they just don't have the specific traits that breeders look for (stuff I don't even understand).

Thank you so much for your reaction, Sirdarksol. I've been going crazy trying to convince them that what they were doing was cruel, and I am so mad that they won't listen. So am glad that am not going mad, and some people agree with me that 5 goldfish in a small tank is crazy.

I thought I'd gotten through to my dad but yesterday, we went to the chinese restaurant, and he cracked a joke about the fact that I probably thought the fish at the chinese restaurant needed a lake.

This after hours of painstakingly showing him references that condone what I am saying about them needing WAY more than a fish bowl.

Argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh am sure they're not buying show quality. They're just very new to the koy thing so am sure they wouldn't really recognise a show quality one if it bit them in the butt.

No, you WON'T be stupid, but you also WON'T forget who your friends are and you WILL open a giant fish store in Melbourne for them!

If they're anything like our parents, yours have the attitude of "i'm older, so i'm smarter and know better" and they treat our opinions as worthless and trivial.

tell him that he should look for some websites for the Coy enthusiast to see how Coy owners take care of them properly. He's sure to find plenty of info reinforcing what you've told him, since it's cruel and foolish to store them in a small tank. he'll just end up with a broken tank, dead coy and an indoor flood.

My parents can't seem to understand why we'd want so many fish tanks. Or want to pay the extra $30 it adds on to our power bill.
I have a litter box per cat...and they think that is silly. They haven't seen how much waste 4 cats can produce.
We aren't having kids so our cats & fish are our "kids".
