Same as title. What's the lifespan of snakeskin barbs?
I really like how they look but there isn't a lot of information about them. Don't really want to keep fish that have a lifespan of only 2-3 years.

They can live anywhere between 4-8 years, from what I hear. I have never owned any type of barb so I'm no expert.

I've been told that they live around 3-5 years. Looking online though it seems to differ in range from 2-8 years.

Oh really? I haven't found anything online detailing their lifespan. Would you mind linking me to some websites?
Even 3-5 years sounds good though.

Thanks!

Another question guys, do snakeskin barbs prefer the bottom of the tank or middle? Most online sources say they stick to the bottom but I have also come across some that say they stay in the upper-middle are a and area very active species.
Anyone with personal experiences with these barbs have an opinion/observation?

Just trying to do my research in full before getting these fish as I can't exactly change my mind after getting them.

I've only kept Black Ruby Barbs and although I was told they stick to the bottom of the tank, for me, they swim all over (130litres). Brilliant to watch and very active.

IME, they tend to stay middle-bottom. They like to forage the substrate when feeding.

Alright, thanks for the answers guys. I was actually hoping they'd swim mid-top but I think I'll get some of them anyway since they look so unique.

My snakeskin barbs kept mostly to the lower third except when feeding, they were far more shy than my gold barbs.
