What's the benefits of having plants in your aquarium?

HI all
What's the benefits of having plants in ur aquarium.
I have a planted tank and I'm just wondering??

 

The fish love them. Plants remove some nitrates and help oxygenate the water

Wonderful.

 

My neons love my plants (Hygrophila polysperma or Hygro for short) as a refuge.

They melt into it when scared, a few are out and about during the day but then I'm always amazed at how many unseen fish appear at feeding time.

 

Yea my tetras spawn like crazy over my plants.
