I have come into possession of a 2gal. As it awfully small I was wondering what fish can I put in it?

If you can track down and afford it. You could get 3-4 galaxy rasboras.

Although some would argue it's too small, you could get a betta. 2 gallons is much more than many bettas get.

You would have to a lot of regular water changes.

A betta would be good - you could also put 5-7 neon tetras in. Or maybe one or two of the African dwarf frogs. The betta might be fun if you also put some of the lucky bamboo in a back corner. The betta would have fun swimming through the roots.

2 gallons is WAAAY too small for 5-7 neons.

A two gal. could be used as a secondary quarantine/ nursery tank in a pinch depending on what you put in it.. but as a permanent home, it might not be the optimum size for any species even single Bettas, Neons , or Guppies

Is lucky bamboo a plant? Actually I was thinking along the betta lines but wasn't sure if it will be cruel-ish.

I'd love to have a 2 gallon fall into my hands for this purpose. That'd be so great!

HI Sabi
not sure if you have already used the two gal tank, but wanted to let you know that I had the female betta in a 2.5 and she had plenty of room there. I didnt use a lot of decorations tho, just a silk plant for her to lay on. The female bettas are smaller than the males, and if you decided on a betta, I believe that a female would be the way to go for your tank! good luck, kate

Cherry shrimp and plants would be good in that size tank. Whatever you put in it you will have to do at least 2x week 50% water changes or more.

thanks guys! i've decided on a betta. I am doind water changes more or less everyday as i'm keeping my fish from the 8gal there because it has cracked. fixed it today though hope it stays so! I'll keep a betta in there along with 1 or 2 live plants. I'll do 20% water changes 3/4 times a week a week or as Carol says 50% twice a week. What say?

Sabi, female bettas are smaller than males and that's why they are a good choice for a 2 gallon tank. IMO the males are just too large for that tank.

I would use it as a breeder to help out with my lot. My 4 tank breeder are all 2 gallons each and perfect for breeding and the first couple of weeks of growth for the fry. Still need a lot of water changes though, fry tanks get very messy very quickly.

lol, no the MTS did.. we sold them and now have room for another tank (that 30 gallon tall) and money for more fish supplies.

Is it wide or tall, if it's wide it would be better than if it's tall, bettas could care less for tall tanks.

What about a nano saltwater tank

it's a tall 30 gallon tall. ..it'll house either angels or fancy gups.

I would breed some angels and swordtails in the 30 gal.

Yeah, mine's in a tall 10G and it IS a waste of volume, really. I regret buying that tank but gotta use it now. But still, better than a cup, hey.

Well, you know, it's not going to hurt them or anything. Only they're shallow water fish, and they like to swim horizontally rather than up and down, but it doesn't have to be this huuuge problem or anything.
