What do you like and dislike most about fishkeeping ?

What I like the most :
-The challenge of keeping fish alive and the reward of how long I'm able to keep them.
-Watching their unpredictable behavior.
-Enjoying the way they look.

What I dislike the most :
-Hard to get rid of a fish without euthanizing it (We don't have the give-back policy in my place.).
-Cleaning the poops, especially the smaller ones.
-Watching aggressive fish attacking others.
-Having to quarantine new fish.
-Having to worry about overfeeding.

Fish Police?
You know, like the toxic people who claim"animal abuse" at every turn and act like there are rules to fish keeping.

I love everything but:
FW diseases, the unpredictability of fish inexplicably dying, not being able to go a day without being wet, and finally, getting poop out of the bottom of large tanks.

I like about everything. I dislike control freaks. Especially the ones that can't get out of their way and everything becomes a panic attack because of it.

I love that there is so much to learn about fish keeping; it’s endless. I love the immense variety of fish you can keep and the diversity of biotopes you can create. I love taking care of my fish and trying to replicate as much as possible their natural environement.

I hate disease and death in my fish.

  1. The ability to design a little replica of nature inside the home
  2. How the aquarium inhabitant interact with their environment like Cichlid shifting sand out of their gills (Whoa!)
  3. How Apistogramma raise their spawn
  4. The intricate complexity of making everything work together to support a live ecosystem
  5. How I can hand feed my fish is amazing
Dislikes
  1. Algae battle especially Black Beard Algae
  2. Curing fish diseases (The hardest for me by far)
  3. How expensive the hobby simply because it is made for the aquarium
  4. Going on vacation and getting a power outage alert -_-;
  5. Insane humidity increase if you live in a small home with a big tank
  6. Watching a fish taking the biggest dump ever
  7. When bottom dwelling fish get sucked up into the filter intake

Like: So much to learn and customize. I absolutely love how much attention my tank gets when I have guests in my home. No one has ever shown anywhere close to the amount of attention to any other hobby or passion I've had. And people really do notice all the little details of a tank, I love it when I see someone watching and engrossed in what my fish are doing.

Dislikes: The guilt. Everything good and bad those fish go through is because of my choices. There is nothing else to blame, I control the weather, the inhabitants, and every object and chemical that comes and goes is my responsibility. Any suffering in that tank comes with a ton of guilt.

Lots of things I like about fishkeeping, that is why I do it! I think everything that has already been mentioned plus I like researching which fish to keep and planning my next tank - I had better stop doing that now though!). I even quite like doing the maintenance, except for opening the canister filter and cleaning the front glass, I always manage to leave a bit and don’t like the part next to the substrate.

As for dislikes, again most that have been mentioned but I also dislike not being able to get hold of the fish I want (very limited availability where I live); the fact the many of my favourite fishes eat or destroy plants and, recently, cyanobacteria (blue green algae).

I like almost everything about this hobby; it's fascinating, calming, and beautiful.

I dislike running into persistent issues I can't figure out how to correct. For example, algae issues frustrated the heck out of me for years.
