What would cause Amazon sword plants to do this?

Quick question
What would cause Amazon sword and cripts leaves to look like lace? May post a picture when I get home
They are in a 20 long with grow lights. Liquid fertilizer and some substrate. No CO2.
I keep having to trim off leaves that are full of tiny holes like lace or something

Naw - i doubt it is hte clown pleco. How old are the plants. Frequently new plants you purchase will 'melt' their old leaves and then grow new ones that are more suitable to your growing condition.

Plants may be 6-7 months old
It is a deficiency
Deficiency in what?

I can't really tell what substrate you have in there, but swords are heavy heavy root feeders. I cannot say for sure if its a deficiency or the pleco, but that is just something to keep in mind if this continues or happens in other tanks. Having a planted tank substrate specifically can target some issues but a lot of times root tabs are also helpful to keep swords healthy in my experience.

Ok. I’ve moved the pleco and use root tabs so I’ll see if it clears up

thanks

I’m told plecos don’t eat plants but my pleco absolutely demolished all my Amazon swords in my tank to the point they almost didn’t bounce back. They are still 1/3 the beauty they once were. I got rid of the pleco. The damage looks just like your pictures, like the plants were melting. But they wernt. Since removing the pleco, no more of that damage has occurred.

I have been having the same problem with my Amazon swords , i use API leaf zone and Flourish every Monday and API Co2 everyday and they’re still like a clear lace I keep my light on for like 8-10 hour’s depending on the day and I only have 1 baby bristlenose pleco and 2 tetras & 2 golden dojo loaches and at this point I don’t know what to do

Flourish and leaf zone are both micronutrients. Leaf Zone is potassium and iron. Flourish is potassium, iron and a lot of other micro nutrients. You could save money and stop the leaf Zone. Micronutrients may be all you need if your fish and fish food are providing enough nitrogen and phosphorous for the plants.

API CO2 adds no CO2. It's an algecide. It kills algae and other simple organisms like moss and bacteria. In higher concentrations it is used as a disinfectant in hospital and laboratory settings. There is a lot of deceptive advertising around this product which is sold by several brands. It will not add CO2, but many people use it successfuly to control algae.

I have used pottasium supplimentation for leaf issues like holes in the leaves and it resolved it. Of course it won't fix it if the problem is the pleco.
