What Water Temperature?

I have been keeping it at 80 degrees and I’m debating bumping it up to 82 degrees. I know most will prefer, but will everyone in the tank be okay with that?

125 gallon:
1 blood parrot
1 electric blue acara
2 electric blue ram
2 common pleco
3 kuhlI loaches
4 cory cats
1 striped raphael cat
1 zebra loach
2 rainbow shark
4 discus
2 angel
3 clown loach

 

In my opinion, that 2 degree temp raise is not going to affect the fish that heavily. The cichlids thrive greatly at that temperature. The loaches, cories, and rainbow shark are the ones I would keep a close eye on if you do raise the temp

Keep in mind that the warmer your water is, the quicker it is going to evaporate and drop the tanks water levels.

I do hate filling a tank up, but I have a decent cover on it to catch most the evaporation. Thinking about taping it to be almost air tight so that evaporation won't get out(it has an air stone and the canister filter airates the water). Bad idea or good idea?

The increase in temperature is mainly for the discus because they are not as hardy as the others and I read that fish usually prefer more warm temperatures(like we prefer summer). It also helps boost their immune system.

 

No problem! glad this information helped. I agree with your thoughts on raising the temp for the discus as they are sensitive fish. The other fish in your tank are quite hardy so don't worry too much Personally, I wouldn't tape the tank but instead just try to keep the lid closed as much as possible, that's just my opinion. I have always had evaporation problems but now feed through the hole where the filter output is to minimize the amount of times I have to open the lid.

And yes fish do usually prefer warmer temps. It will keep them more active and boost their metabolism! Also, it should make their colours really pop!

 

Why would you not tape the top other than it possibly looking tacky? The glass top has a 2” gap at the back for the filter ect. I have some universal plastic inserts filling the gaps the best I can. Really don’t want to fill this tank twice a week.
