What Was Been Your Biggest Water Spill?

So this question came to mind just now whilst doing a water change on several of my tanks. I am about done draining my 29 gallon tank to the desired level (I drain into the bathtub btw), when I go into the bathroom to go put the python end onto the sink to start filling when this happens:

I round the corner to look into the bathroom and what do I see? All three of my cats sitting on the ISLAND of a bathmat that they have made. These little buggers were playing with my siphon end and KNOCKED it out of the bathtub! Literally my 29g tank has been draining onto the BATHROOM FLOOR this whole time! They just look at me with zero regret of what they have done. There is literally two inches of water on the bathroom floor at this point - a solid 15 gallons. Best part about this is that I wasn't shocked at all. I immediately grab the 'fish towel' and start sopping it up and wringing it out into the bathtub until clean. Everything is wet. Everything. Worst of all - I look down the hall just to see these little dirtballs watching me clean up after their bidding.

That's my worst spill so far and how it went, so how did your's go?

Nothing as bad as that but I’m kinda clumsy during waterchanges and I’m sure I’ve spilled 70+ gallons in all. Everytime I look away it seems like the siphon fell out!

Ok working on a mixed shift job. Sometimes nights sometimes days can really mess with your wellbeing. So I go in for a day shift and I’m told it was changed for nights. I go home but can’t sleep so I decide to change the water in a 125 turtle tank I had for my boys . So I drain the tank put the hose back into the tank and head upstairs to get something. Fell asleep. Wife gets home from work at about 5 wakes me up and I start the bbq and I’m happily cooking dinner when my dog walks by with his paws soaked almost up to his chest.OH....NO.... I run down to the basement and it’s got a solid foot of water on the floor. The room 20x20. The hose is still in the turtle tank and all 7 turtles are swimming for there lives behind it. Most exercise they ever had!!
About 2 years later I had the 200g on the opposite walls crack on me and drop 200g on the floor in about a second. Yes I’m still married and still have tanks . Though it took 15 yrs before I got something bigger than a 30g. Aren’t spills fun.

I've had the handle of a 5gal bucket break and most the water went onto the kitchen floor. Also had the siphon, which was supposed to have both ends in the tank between filling buckets, fall out and drained a good 5ish gallon onto our carpeted basement floor. Took a few days to dray that out.

Call me old fashioned but I just use a 1 dollar bicycle pump and a piece of airline. One pull gets the water flowing into a bucket, bucket gets emptied into the toilet. Takes like 10 minutes. I'll probably still do that for my new 40B cus they have 10g buckets at the hardware store and the bathroom is right there anyways. I usually spill a few drops. Only hard part is pouring the water in slowly but I use a big funnel with tubing on it so it's not that bad. I'd imagine it would be harder for me to figure out how to use the new fangled pump systems, sounds too complicated for my dinosaur brain

Holey moley you prolly got ripped a new one for that! Lucky for me, my girlfriend was at work when this happened so I can act like it never happened, but you my friend were not so fortunate! With that kinda area, I would say that had to be at least 3000 gallons haha.

Well, how about 35-40gals form a 55g tank. Yep, sprung a leak.. happened last year. A few days after I added 8 Blue Diamond Discus ($400). Woke up to a loud waterfall noise at 3am. Walked into the "Living room", first step squishing carpet. Luckily, I had a 35g brute can with conditioned water to transfer them into. What a nightmare. Vacuuming up the water, removing the carpeting. Then cleaning and sanding and refinishing the floor. At least I saved the fish and got to remodel the room.
Also, have had my share of 5-10 gal overfills, trying to multi-task not paying attention.

What fun, the trials of keeping "Wet Pets".
