Hi guys! I currently own 2 angelfish in my 29 gallon tank (I plan on adding more when the 80 gallon is ready) and i was curious what type/species they are. So to any angelfish experts, which type are they?

I am not an angelfish expert. I am seeing a pale background marbled with yellow (or gold) and black, and no red. Is this still a koi? I was sold something like this (with much more black) as black koi.

This is probably more than you wanted to know.... :) I'm not an "expert" but I'm a breeding enthusiast.

If it doesn't have the see thru gill plate of the blushing allele, It's not a Koi.
it does have the yellow/orange in the dorsal that koi don't have, which will also get an iridescent blue to it as it ages, Here's hoing the yellow gets deeper towards orange also.

This is a gold marble.

the catch on telling genetics of the gold marbles apart is if the body is "white" or if the body is "yellow" or "silver", this is hard to tell from the pictures with the lighting with certainty.

if "white" white, = White gold marble, Gm/g,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+

if the white is "off-white" to yellow = Gold marble, Gm/Gm,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+

if the white is silver not white, not yellow, = Silver Gold Marble, Gm/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+

Koi can be like Gm/g,S/S,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+ or Gm/Gm,S/S,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+ or Gm/+,S/S,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+,+/+
it has to have the S/S in all cases, the Stripeless/Blushing locus allele, if it doesn't, it's not a true Koi Angel and being passed off as Koi. The Stripeless/blushing of a Koi angel is always a true "white" white
and yellow/orange doesn't extend to the Dorsal like yours or mine do.

The Gold Marbles all have this yellow to orange mottled color that runs into the dorsal fin to some extent, the Koi all have the red cheeks of the clearer gill plates. there can be orange in the dorsal, but it's a blotch, it's not this mottled pattern, of the gold genetics, that gets wiped out by the stripeless genetics.

there is a marble blushing also but these are all Marble (M) dominant, and all offspring are marble dominant and there are no light colored fish in the spawn. they are all heavy black, but with the pink gill plates. they can't be confused with Koi angels.

The term Koi is too loosely used with several strains of Angelfish. This looks to me like a simple Gold Marble. Gold Marble is not a combination of Gold and Marble, but rather a distinct gene on the same locus.

I agree, I prefer the light colored gold marbles to be called calico or something else, and not Koi, just because there is a genetic make up for Koi and if people want to create a name for marketing reasons, make one that isn't already being used to identify genetics at least. Calling all patched angels Koi seems deceptive to me. and it happens quite a bit.

I agree also. Gm is not a combination of M and g, it's distinct genetics.
