So... my tap water is FULL of ammonia. My question is can I use Marineland ammonia neutralizer crystals For one of the 3 media trays... and mechanical and biological for the other two? Or should I use the carbon/neutralizer mixture?

You can do whatever you want. If that’s what you want to do go ahead as long as you have bio media for the bacteria.

Ok. So I'm thinking from bottom to top as follows,

1. Bio
2. Chemical
3. Mechanical

Wrong order: From the bottom up:

3) Chemical - Top tray
2) Bio - Middle tray
1) Mechanical - Bottom tray

I'm confused. I thought the mechanical should be on top so it can catch any gunk before it goes back to the tank?

What kind of filter is it?

Ok great thanks!
One more question.
How to do the chemical, should I use dimond blend in a filter sock and a polishing pad ontop or can I just pour the little granules right into the basket?

I would throw away your chemical. You normally don’t need these. and add more biological

Definitely put them in the “bag”

Hahahahahaha. High quality bags are ripoffs. I bought mine for two dollars each. It’s ridiculous how much they cost.

But yea, if you decide to use chemical filtration. definitely put them in a bag. Or such a big mess when cleaning up. Chemical filtration does need regular change. This is because their pores Will be filled up and no longer useful. And once filled up, that things can actually leach into the water. So I would not even bother with chemical filtration Unless I’m working with unless I need it to remove something out of the tank.

So... what do I use to get rid of ammonia? Prime?

Introduce some B.B. that’s the ultimate way to do it. Otherwise, if your ammonia is skyrocket high, you can use stuffs like prime or zeolite.
