What To Get - Large pleco?

New fishes
  • #1
We did the small version of this post and got a bn for one of our 2 smaller tanks. Now we are looking to upgrade our 55 to a 180 or 220 and would really like to get a large pleco. My tetras moved to tye 25 the only thing we have to stock in it right now is my rubber lip. What are some larger pleco varieties that could go with him in the big tank? I was thinking a rhino would be good and temp compatible but mybf dislikes the brown colorations. He wants something dark like a blue eyed or common. Rest of the stock would be based around this.

This is my bfs favorite. I'm hoping he may settle for like a royal or rhino that max out 12-16 inches but he's not crazy for the look of them. I'm hoping we may find something suitable we both agree on at a better price but if not blue eye it is.. if he and my rubber lip agree on a 74-75degree temp

I know they say commons can get 2 feet long but typically in our aquariums they max out around 14". Still a big fish but its one of my favorites and don't cost $350.

We picked this guy up today and think he might have been mislabeled. Is he perhaps a mango or orange seam? Poor quality I know his fin tips are all bright bright yellow

I'm not the best at identifying all the different ones. I think DoubleDutch is.

Ok thank you here's another shot I managed to get if anyone can help please ignore my gross driftwood. All her fins have at least some yellow. Again not well reflected in the pictures but it's bright sunshine yellow

Thank you that's what I thought she most closley resembled but I know there are other plecs I have never even heard of. If that's indeed the case she won't get nearly the size I was wanting but she's cute and I got a deal at the price I paid...

I should throw in that she was sold to me as a l001 plec which she does look like I just don't see that they have the yellow fin tip. Also got my first amano shrimp with her and he's mega cool. Not related I just like him. He is a food thief already though.

Yeah, ive got a couple amanos that will take a sinking pellet and try and eat it all by themselves. The others don't do this though. I guess some are bigger pigs than others.
