What to do with old 10gal tank?

I've had my 10 gallon for 6 or so years. I finally upgraded it to a 20long. Here's my dilemma: I bought a new stand that is going to house my 20 on top and I'm going to put a 10 gallon for a qt on the bottom. I'm looking to get a new 10 gallon because the one I have not only has calcium and salt build up all over it, it also had a small leak at the top trim. It did go through a move with 20% water in it and when my original stand molded (thanks a/c...) I drained half of it to move it and put it on the floor until I had a new stand. So I'm not sure if the leak happened from moving it or the calcium build up, etc. So I don't want to necessarily throw it away, but I'm not sure if resealing it would solve anything and if I'd do a good enough job of sealing anywho. And since the doller per gallon sale is going on anyway $10 isn't going to break me. Ideas?

Heres a pic with the build up on it. It's extremely difficult to get off and I scrub the heck out of what I can.

Do you have non-automatic car washes in your area, I would try using the high pressure water gun to spray down the tank, I believe it's like a dollar and a quarter for 5 minutes? Just a thought

Buy a new tank and then keep the old 10gal as a Quarintine tank. Bare bottom if needs be. Its always a good idea to have a quarintine tank. This way, you can have the peace of mind that there won't (hopefully) be problems with the new 10gal and that if the quarantine old 10gal does break, you're not looking at rehoming a fully stocked and decorated tank with very short notice.

The new 10 gallon is going to be a QT.

I would probably just toss it and get a new one during the dollar per gallon sale. The reason, the silicon I have seen around my area is roughly a dollar or two less then the cost of a new tank. You won't need to worry about cleaning up the buildup either. If you can find some inexpensive silicon then you could try resealing it.

You could sell the old one as a reptile or small mammal tank? That way you don't need to reseal it and you can get some money back to go towards the new 10 gal.

That sounds like a good idea! I actually used to house my gerbil in a 10 gallon tank when I was little.

10 gallon might be ok for a mouse (though it would be best if you checked with an expert in mice on that) but it's definitely too small for a gerbil. I think it's ok for a tarantula or scorpion though!

Mind you I was 10 also had 4 zebra danios in a 2-3gallon with 100% water changes. *sigh* we also took my gerbil out every day to run in her ball. My brother also had a mouse in a 10 gallon with a maze attached to a tube on top of the tank. She ended up having 10 babies

I def agree it could be used for smaller pets! Maybe a small snake or small lizards? (Not my cup of tea here so I'm not sure on size requirements) what about hermit crabs?

No idea on hermit crabs, my thing was Syrian hamsters, and occasionally gerbils and mice
