What To Do With My Tank Now

So just this morning I found my female betta passed away. I have been fighting with the tanks nitrate level for about 2 months now. In return this made her sick and today was her last day. Now I have an empty tank that I am not looking to use again for a while. I am wondering what steps I should take in taking it down and what I should do with the filter media because I’ve had it for about 2 years and it’s frustrating to let all that bb go. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thank you

In terms of the media, you could place it into another filter in case you ever want to set up the tank again.

If not running the tank or starting another than there’s no reason to keep it(the media). Just drain the tank put the substrate in a bucket. Dry the tank and filter and store till your ready to try again.

Hello Em...

Tell me about your tank. You have it set up and it's been running. Seems a shame to close it down because of one negative experience. There are so many possibilities for success. I recommend some fancy Goldfish. Very hardy and beautiful. I have some fancy Goldfish and they're so easy to keep. I just feed them a little variety and change out most of their water every week. They're beautiful and very peaceful. I have them in the same tank with some White cloud Minnows. You don't need a heater. You don't even need a filter as long as you change the water often. I'll send you some pictures if you like.

I would put the media in another filter as was mentioned above.

Drain it and dry it. Keep the media in a covered container.

Whatever you do, don't let the water sit and stagnate.
