What to do with a bad transhipper?

Bah -.-

I won't name the person, I feel that would be unnecessary to do in public, If you need to know, ie are ordering a fish from indonesia and want to know what's going on with transhipping, pm me.

I ordered three bettas a while ago from indonesia, and I do know they were shipped on the 8th of december. While I was waiting for a tracking number so I could contact the transhipper this seller sends to, turns out they arrived. So the seller facebooked me (my email was down but we had a FB convo going from when I first found him) and let me know I needed to contact the transhipper.

So I finagled my way into my email via my phone, then finagled further on my computer (so I could actually read the response to what I sent the transhipper)

This is what she told me:
1) I didn't have your email. Fish got here yesterday and I need to know shipping method and get payment.
I thought: How can you not have my email? I replied to your email TO ME to send this apology for my email being down and requesting confirmation of shipping prices

2)After a few replies and me trying to figure out which shipping method would get the fish here on a day I'll be around to receive them so they don't end up sitting in the post office for 7 hours when they arrive, I sent one last message with the shipping type I'd selected and letting her know that payment was sent for this shipping.

That was two nights ago. I still haven't received a reply. Not even a "sorry been busy, I'll have to ship them out next monday". Nothing. I sent a message earlier today asking for the tracking number, since in theory if she received the payment I sent, today would have been the last available shipping day for this week to get them here by saturday (hopefully by friday though since the whole point was to get them here when I'd be home).

Sadly I'm not the only who has had this issue of non-communication.

I guess I just wanted to vent. I'm sure the fish will get here fine and even if they have to stay in their baggies for a few hours, it was supposed to be overnight vs 3 day shipping, so I guess if they can last 3 days they can last a few extra hours on overnight UPS. But still -.-

Bad communication ruins many good deals. Hopefully it all works out well for you.

Tell me about it. Here's to hoping... the UPS man hasn't shown up today, but often comes in the mid evening. If they don't arrive tonight, hopefully they arrive tomorrow.

Yeah, if I'd known she was going to hold them until monday anyway, I'd have gone with a cheaper shipping method since I'll be home all next week. Grr. Oh well I guess.

I hope they arrive safely.

I've consistently had problems with a particular transhipper, I won't repeat it here, you can go look at my review in the review section. But I've always been able to get them to contact me by complaining to the seller, she apparently pays attention to emails from them. And there is another transhipper who has been wonderful.

This is why I don't plan to ship any guppies when mine start popping out fry. I just don't feel I have the knowledge to handle shipping something alive, so I'm not going to do it and get people all upset by messing it up.

That's the same very bad, LDF and it sounds like for mostly the same reasons.

I've heard great things about the other woman though. I'm hoping this particular seller begins shipping through her in the future.

Ravenlady, I didn't have any problems at all with the seller. I've had problems with the transhipper, which is the one who picks the fish up at the airport when they are flown in from another country and gets them through customs. Sadly whether imported fish die during shipping has little to do with the seller themselves, and more to do with what happens after they arrive in the states.

I would contact the the person who you bought them off and inform them of your concerns of using that trans shipper in the future. If you ask nicely that might find another trans shipper or get the other to pull their head out. Hope you fish arrives safely on monday.

I believe there is a section of this forum that deals with leaving critique on your experiences with vendors like this. If I were you, I would definitely name this party so that others don't go through the same thing with them.

I equate it with you knowing who the bully is who's beating up your kid, but you won't tell the other mothers.

Word of mouth is a very powerful thing. If this person has a FB page, I would go there and log my complaint. If they have any kind of website, I'd go there and do the same thing. Google reviews on this person. You might be surprised what you find.

Haha LDF beat me to the review.

As it turns out, the seller may not be using her anymore anyway.

Either way I'm definitely waiting until she sends me my fish before I leave bad reviews anywhere -.-' I want my babies darnit lol.

Depending on what you paid the seller for the fish, you might want to think about cancelling payment to the shipper. I presume there's a payment involved to her, too.

I'd just take the loss on this one and chalk it up to a lesson well learned.

That is the very reason I left the review I did. There are a lot of betta lovers here who are understandably hesitant to buy these overseas 'show' bettas, even thought they really want them, because of the complicated shipping process. I don't want to see anyone take the plunge only to go through this horrible experience that could have been avoided by picking the right transhipper.

They are betta rubra. Not exactly easy to find, and pretty pricey as far as fish go :c and the guy I bought them from breeds the best. And was willing to hand pick a really big male who could potentially wrap the really big female I have. I knew he was shipping through her but I figured if I got in touch with her before he ever sent them, all would be fine. So I won't be cancelling payment to her, I want my fish. I just want them like yesterday Unfortunately there was literally no other option when I bought them. He was the only one I could get them from and she is the only transhipper he could use.

As long as the fish are well packed I'm not worried at this point. Just the lack of communication and cooperation is frustrating.

I do know she's feeding them while she has them at least lol. She told me they're getting live baby brine shrimp.

For anyone who happens to come across this and is curious, check out LDF's transhipper thread in the review section.

Still, if she hasn't been mentioned by name in the Transshipper, The good, the bad and the very ugly thread yet, you should do so.

lagree with lyndaB, I'm guessing you talking about the trans shipper Linda. but Leaving a review without a name kind of defeats the purpose of said review.

She has been mentioned by name. And given what I just saw in my email as I was trying to figure out what went wrong, I have just left a major venting review... lol. Sorry about that, folks.

I'm officially mad now. Like srsly.

@junebug- still.doesn't the seller have to package them up and bring them to the carrier facilities? I'm not sure I'd have the slightest clue how to package up fish, and I'd probably worry until I received word that they'd arrived where they were sent....

Yes, but it's kind of irrelevant since the issue I'm having is with the transhipper and not the seller. He's good. He's probably sold thousands of fish and shipped them to the states and the UK. Fortunately this has nothing to do with him.

I was talking about me, personally, shipping out fish. I'm sure the seller is a fine person, I'd just be too nervous to be a seller lol

Seconding the horribleness >.> Linda's had my fish now for a month I think? $200 worth of fish. Won't reply to my emails. I'm gonna try calling her in the morning. But I can vouch that the seller JB's speaking of is AWESOME. Amazing fish and just a super all around guy. We're buds on facebook lol. He's done with shipping until Jan-Feb but hopefully he might have another option for transhipping by then.

What was her justification for holding them that long in the first place. For all we know she was breeding them before she let you have them.

Pretty much, but she put the final nail in her coffin by doing so and for $200 worth of fish that actually belong to a client (increasing my frustration and stress about the whole thing) I wasn't willing to risk it.

Some people just don't have what it takes to run a business. Some of us are honest enough with ourselves to realize that... some aren't.

As she gets more bad rep, she'll have a harder and harder time finding new people to rip off.

Shame is that she has been doing this for many years, and the ThaI sellers still list her at the top of the lists. I wish there was so way to convince them to remove her name from their listings. Or at very least move it down to the bottom of the list. They are, with or without realizing it, endorsing her. I don't know if I'm the only one who assumed the one at the top of the list is the most highly recommended, especially is she is on the top of every seller's list.

That's what I originally thought too, LDF. You're not alone. There are probably thousands of US buyers who assumed the same.

I've been watching this thread since the beginning and the results (no blame), are exactly why people like this stay in business and people will continue to deal with her.

These 2 quotes below show that even with being frustrated, the end result (getting the fish) is predictable and is more important than dealing with a bad business person or company that would affect their bottom line.

It's truly a shame that some businesses are run like this, but the sad part is that as long as customers put up with it, they will always be around. A handful of people complaining on a forum or on facebook isn't going to make the slightest bit of difference. Until the choice is made to put the money back in your pocket and walk away, nothing will change.

Everyone here has stated how great the seller is, but if his product isn't delivered through his actions or inaction the end result is still the same. Letting him off the hook because someone he deals with is bad business.

Just one businessman's humble opinion...
