I'm torn! I am going to be getting a 40 breeder (got a rain check for the Petco $1 per gallon sale) and am not sure what I want to stock it with.
Do I:
1. Do a gigantic shelly colony with Multies
2. Do a nano fish setup (inspired by Kunsthure lol)
3. Use it to make the plunge into the world of saltwater fish keeping?

And I know that saltwater would be the most expensive but i really really want to do a salt tank and have no problem acquiring all the required equipment over the course of a few months.

I vote saltwater. Every time I go to the LFS I wish I had one. The idea of a reef tank is very appealing to me.
On a side note, the aquarium store here in Albany is going out of business, everything is on sale. I'm not sure how good there equipment selection is, but it may be worth checking out if you do plan on going with a saltwater.

I'm sad to see it go. Now all I have left is petco. Are there any non-chain stores in Salem?

Nope. We have 1 petsmart and 2 petcos. I have had to go to either albany or portland if i want to go to a non chain store. I was sad about it closing as well.

I need more posts so I can PM.... there is a store in Corvallis, Animal House on 4th. If you haven't been it's worth checking out.

40 Breeders make perfect planted tanks and coral tanks because of the shallow depth and front to back depth that they have.
My vote goes reef or planted!

I voted multies. You ganked my siggy idea and now you're trying to steal my nano fish idea, in a 40 gallon no less? You ain't nuthin' but a imitator, yo.

Haha, i know! Saltwater is my first choice. I'm just kinda struggling with the cost. My wife actually really likes your stocking idea. I'd rather have the multies
