What To Do When A Fish Is Having Trouble Laying Eggs?

I have a Blue Opaline Gourami, a fish that lays eggs and one of my fears with her is her getting round with eggs but unable to lay them and therefore stopped up and eventually dying. I had this happen with a killifish in the past and I don't it to happen again.

What is it called for when a fish can't lay her eggs if there is a term for it?
What do I do if it does happen to my Gourami?

I want to get a breeding pair but I also want my fish to live to quite an old age and hopefully never fall to the same death as my killifish. I do quite worry about this and I hope that it never happens and if it does happen, I sincerely hope it wont end in a death.

Thank you! I wasn't able to remember the word at all for all day and it was driving me up the wall.
