What To Do W/ 2 Goldfish & Algae Eater?

I have two Goldfish, a baby Algae eater, and two baby snails in a ten gallon tank, The goldfish have been acting a little weird ever since I got the algae eater. When I got the Algae Eater, the goldfish stopped eating food from the top of the tank and only waited until it hit the bottom to eat it. They never leave the Algae eater's side. Now, because they only eat from the bottom, the swim slightly sideways- should I rehome them? I only got them to see if my tank works for fish and I've had them ever since. I really want some tetras though, do any of you live in Tucson Az that have tetras and want to trade them for some loopy goldfish and an algae eater?

The goldfish and algae eater need to be rehomed because the tank is way too small for them.

Both the goldfish and the algae eater need a much larger tank. Can you post pics so we can ID?
Is the tank cycled?
What are your water parameters?

Maybe the swimming sideways is not because they are eating from the bottom. Maybe there are some issues in the tank, first of which you said, it is not cycled.

When did you get the algae eater, or another way of asking is, how long ago did the goldfish start this sideways swimming and how long have you had the tank up?

I've had the tank a few months and the goldfish started swimming sideways a few days after I got the algae eater

Have you checked your ammonia level? Goldfish are big ammonia producers and some algae eaters are too. I don't know about Chinese algae eaters but I know plecos have a huge impact on a busload.

High ammonia, also, causes fish to stay near the bottom of the tank. It can be a huge sign when top and middle swimmers are suddenly at the bottom.

It's possible that your filter could handle the goldfish but the algae eater has just overloaded it and your ammonia has spiked.

Are these single tail goldfish? Also, the tetras really need larger than 10 gallons too.

Possibly, I'll look into that, thank you.

Comets are single tails. They are pond fish.
