What To Do If Power Goes Out

I am in the path for a big storm and was wondering what to do if I lose power. I have a Betta so I’m not worried about oxygen... I am worried about the heater and the filter. What do I need to do to keep the bb in the filter alive. I do not want to lose my cycle

You can make a makeshift sponge filter by tying your filter media to a air stone. though that would require either a wireless airpump, or a battery backup system.

So long as your power isn't off too long, your bb should be fine!

I'm not that far away from you, you can wrap the tank with a blanket to insulate it and use a battery powered air pump and a stone. The good thing is it's a betta they can tolerate higher temperatures, if the tank gets to hot a small soda bottle that's frozen can lower the temps for you. I have a pair of generators at the house the small one I can setup to power the filters on 3 tanks and 2 chiller units.

I do not have an air stone/pump I am more worried about the cycle for the tank is there anything I need to do for the filter specifically, like do something with the cartridge or nk

As for your filtration you can pick up a power inverter (truck stops have them) A smaller one should do. Plug it in to the 12v port in a car and Run an extension cord to the filter.

Go to Walmart or the local bait and tackle shop the battery powered air pumps are sold there hook it into you air stone if you have one and place the filter media over it to keep water flowing over it. We are in the south, battery powered air pumps are everywhere.

you can invest in a small back up battery. when Hurricane Ike hit we lost power for almost a day. no tv, no computer, etc. so I invested in several, one for each computer, and one for each tv. they also help for the random thunderstorm, if your working on some homework or writing a report on your computer, or even play an online game like warcraft and you suddenly lose power, you would have time to save your work.
something like this would give you about 20-30 minutes on the computer, and probably a few hours on the filter.

I know during the storm last weekend I didn't have one power surge. Today the power goes out for a couple of hours this morning clear sky's and barely a breeze blowing. I had plans on pulling out the generator to run the filters on if it was out more then a couple of hours.
