What to add with my neons?

So, my Betta will be moving to his own pad probably tomorrow. I've 7 neon tetras in a 110L (26g) what would go nicely with them? I don't want to add more neons as i've lost 4 over the last 7 weeks. I like schooling fish, so more tetras (different type) is an option, and I really like endler guppies but would only want males (no space for fry). Suggestions welcome. Also would really appreciate an idea of numbers I could stock including the current 7

Thank you

How about some cherry barbs? You could get 4-6, but I'd do 2 male and 4 females or 1 male and 3 females.

They're certainly an option. Never had barbs before so would be something different and they look rather attractive Are they reasonably easy to care for?

Yeah, I've had them for a long time(in good and bad water conditions), I even got lucky and got two fry.

OK, brilliant, thank you. Will definitely keep them as an option. Be nice to have something i've not had before If I were to get 4-6 of them would that be my tank fully stocked including the neons? Not a problem if it would be, just don't want to overstock. Less is more n'all that.

I wouldn't use stocking sites as hard and fast rules. They're often inaccurate.

Add at least 6 more barbs - they're schooling fish, and should be in groups of 6+.

What's the footprint of the tank?

You could also add a school of cories (all one species) or kuhlI loaches for the bottom, and some male endlers as centerpiece fish.

Tanks been set up for about a year now. All parameters are as they should be. I do weekly water changes and tests. I was originally planning to add some panda cories but i've large gravel that may have sharp edges so was advised against adding them due to them being bottom dwellers and the chance of injury. My tank's built in to the wall so changing the gravel isn't really an option. Loaches are something id definitely be interested in having, always thought they needed larger tanks though?

Thank you. I've just a white (plug in) LED strip light above the condensation lid. The neons look really attractive it in but other than that light it's natural lighting. Lampeyes aren't one i've heard of before, do they go by another name at all?

If the substrate is sharp, you don't want to get kuhlis either.

OK, that's understandable. To be honest I was eyeing up electric rams in my LFS a while back. Would these be an option atall? I'm always wary of what my LFS tells me!! If not maybe better for me to stick with tetras and endlers??

I've seen Lampeyes under the labels of Tetra, KillI and Panchax. If you can get the Blue Lampeyes, they are truly stunning as their bright blue eyes literally light up the tank!

I have Rams in my community tank(used to and now have some in qt) they never seemed to bother anyone but themselves and my poor KiheI loch who I had no idea how to care for at the time and passed in a day...

They sound wonderful. Will have to have a scout about and see what I can find. I'm in no rush, just want to explore my options.

Could well be an option then. Do they need to be in groups? As per above comment, I'm in no rush, just want to explore my options

They don't need to be in groups, in fact if you have to many it's bad. Your size tank I'd say 2, 4 max. Now they can get aggressive if they are a pair and breeding, but they are defending their eggs and if another fish come to close and they view it as a threat then they will try to get them to back off. There are some really beautiful ones out there, I've got Bolivian, but there are some electric blues that are really, really bright blue. They are nice looking though.

No, they're not temp compatible with neons.

Lampeye tetra are different than lampeye killis, and I think there are multiple species of killI with the common name of "lampeye". I was looking at Norman's lampeye for a while - simply stunning!

Not an option. A Bolivian ram would be though.

The electrics I saw in my LFS were absolutely stunning which is what drew me to them. They were in a tank with neons, but being a LFS I don;t always trust that to be the right thing, which I why I love forums like this

As I said, i've not had rams before, are they hard to sex? I don't particularly want to do down the whole baby fish path again, nor breeding fish becoming aggressive. Think i'm going to do some reading up on them. Good to know these could be an option though

Whatever the true name is - they are indeed stunning! I love the eyes.

They can defiantly be hard to sex... But I found vent sexing works well(I think) here's a link on how to do that-

If you get just one then it shouldn't be a problem though.
