What to add to my 135 gallon Oscar tank.

Hey everyone it’s been a long time since I’ve posted on here. But I have a question what could I possibly add and how would I go about doing it? I feel like I definitely have room. I have 1 tiger Oscar about 12 inches
1 jack dempsey male about 6 inches
1 convict female like 3 inches
1 rhino pleco about 10 inches in my 135.
I would personally love to add another Oscar but how would you even go about doing it ? Or what would you add if this was your tank? Thanks.

It's totally your call about adding fish to the existing community. IMO
if you add another adult Oscar there will likely be trouble. Adding a juvenile is risky too, but more likely to succeed.
If you just want another big Cichlid look at a Texas Cichlid or Green Terror. If you want a schooling fish look at Silver Dollars or Red Tail Tinfoils.

Okay I mean my current Oscar lives with that 3 inch convict and he completely ignores its existence. So I was debating about putting a 3 to 4 inch albino Oscar in the tank and see what happens I know there’s a risk to that. I’m just trying to weigh my options I do love the look of a green terror but I haven’t seen one locally here in 3 years. What do you think the odds of a small Oscar being able to survive? I was worried about adding an Oscar of similar size I figured that would be a terrible fight everyday.

The new Oscar needs to be large enough not to be considered lunch & small enough not to be seen as a threat. A three or four inch Oscar is probably your best bet. No guarantees.

oscars and tilapia get along real well in the wilds of south florida.

Okay thank you for that info I do appreciate it thankfully I’ve never fed my Oscar currently live fish or really any live food before so i doubt it would view it as a food source so I’m thinking I will give it a shot and see what happens I will know within a day if it’s going to work I’m sure.

Avoid the conspecific aggression by picking a different species. Why not add like a Severum. They do get pretty big and impressive, can hold their own with big cichlids, but often peaceful.

That’s fair to but it’s a little to late found a juvenile 3 inch albino I added today watching as we speak. Luckily the big Oscar doesn’t care at all about this new comer hasn’t even paid it a bit attention but the convict has been a little pressing but nothing to bad yet fingers crossed everything keeps working out this way! Thank you for the Severum idea to I would of went that direction but I have 2 in my other 120

Starry Night Cichlid!! I've seen one (a bulky, fat male) at my LFS. They are beauuutiful fish!! If I personally had to start over, I'd seriously consider getting one!

Maybe in the next 125 trying to talk my girlfriend into letting me get another 125 or upgrading the current one to a 240 gallon that’s the dream anyway.

Forgot to mention, I haven't kept multiple of the same American Cichlid species in the same tank. Unless I intend to breed, I personally rather not keep multiples of the same "large American Cichlid species". Get something different than 2 Oscars! The Starry Night (Polleni) Cichlid max size is about the same as an Oscar.

My opinion. :)

That’s the end goal is for them to be a pair or whenever I get a new 125 move one over. But I personally hope it works out long term. I love Oscar’s haha they are my go to large fish. So I’m going to stick with it as long as possible. But thank you for the input. Starry night will happen next time amazing fish for sure!
