Where can I buy the best QUIET air pump for a 2.5? My filter broke and I’m going to get a sponge filter, but idk what air pumps the quietest. And what quietest air pump would best for a 10?

You can make any cheap pump pretty quiet by putting a towel or something under it and you'll barley hear anything

Aquarium Co-op has a very quiet pump! It’s so quiet a microphone can’t pick it up

Aquarium co-OP's is good, but if you want a pretty quiet one that just runs off AC power, then the Tetra Whisper pumps are decent.

If you are switching filters, be careful to not kill the cycle in your tank. What kind of filter died?

I’m probably going to switch filters and water conditioners. The filter is working again, but not very well. Do you have any tips on changing filters? The one I currently have is a TOM minI filter.

I have a couple different off brand air pumps and I just hang them by the cord or some have loops built into the casing.. makes them completely silent

Hmmm, it is pretty hard to transition from a non-sponge filter to sponge filter by swapping media (with hang on back or canister filters, you just throw the old media in the new filter and go).

I would recommend running BOTH the old filter AND the new filter at the same time for about 3 weeks checking your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels. That will let the fish stay healthy with the old, colonized filter while the new, sterile filter is colonized.

One other method would to get a sponge filter that has a media compartment in it and put some of the old media in that.

Hyger makes a minI pump for small tanks. It starts out noticeable but gets quieter. I hate loud noises in my space so I’ve gone through quite a few air pumps and filters. :/

If you want a filter that LOOKS the same as the one you have, but is air powered, a Ziss filter that is really good. I'm not sure how big it is though..

I mean my filter is working rn, so I might just wait to get the sponge filter when I get a new tank.

I don’t mind the looks, just as long as it’s quiet.

Most air pumps from what I've found make different noises based on their placement, from what I've found.

Hanging it on a wall does the trick for sure, like kallililly1973 said

And don't put it in an enclosed area, such as it is surrounded on all sides except top, because for some reason my tetra pump's noise gets amplified a lot by doing that. Put it in an open area. So any air pump should work

Where are you guys finding these silent pumps? The one that ran the undergravel filter in a old 3 gallon tank is the quietest one I've ever had.....lol Even hanging up I can hear mine.

It is working right now, but if it dies then you will have to recycle the aquarium. If you are looking at/want a new filter, now is the time to seed it.
Up to you, but sponge filters don't die, so it's a one time expense.
