I need advice on what test kit to use. This will be my first tank that I have properly cycled. (I did not know about cycling.) I need one that is cheap, reliable, and test ammonia, PH, nitrites, and nitrates. Thank You! Happy Fishcaretakering!

API'S Freshwater Master Test kit is what most use around these parts! Tests for all those things.

I have heard that PetSmart will test your water for free. Is that reliable?

I always hear that they just say its "good". What does that even mean.? Lol I like just being able to check it myself.

A lfs helped us a lot with water checks while we were cycling. I bought the API test kit, and found it's well worth it for peace of mind even if nothing else. Having an idea of your nitrate level can also give info as to you to water changes.

Not really, they use sticks und tell you ot is okay. Best kit is the API freshwater kit, you get a lot of testing out of the 20$.
