I like mystery snails as they can come in many different colors. And the added bonus is they don't reproduce on their own. So if you had one, no babies everywhere.

You can, but they produce a lot of waste. Make sure you have good filtration.

Hey DPM, I don't know what you can get in QLD, but in Melbourne snails can be hard to find (along with shrimp), but after some searching, I know where to go now.

Your best bet is to try and find a good LFS, especially one known for plants. Once I found a good LFS, I found they regularly stock a few species.

I would always recommend nerite snails as they also take care of a lot of algae for ya.

Second that. Nothing as I know will eat fish poo.
I tried ramshorn, netrite and MTS snail and I would rank netrite as my #1 favorite as they are the tidyness. They clean the algae well and produces less poo than the other two.
Ramshorn for me is that fastest reproductive snails. I separate them into small container. Don't feed except water change from my tank and found hundred eggs, small snails each week.
