What Size Tank For Oranda Goldfish?

HI guys. I'm going to be getting a bigger tank for my 2 oranda goldfish in may and was wondering what size to get. My local Petsmart has a 36gallon bowfront that comes with filter, heater, hood, and lights for $150. They don't have any 40 gallon breeders, but Petco has a 40gallon, but it comes with nothing. Which would be better? If the 40 gallon is better do they make hoods for them?

I don't think a 36 gallon for 2 Orandas is that bad as long as you're not tempted to add more.

Ok thank you I like having just 2. Theyre too messy to have more.

Although you can get the 40 breeder for 40 bucks right now. And then you will be able to choose a better filter and light to buy. Usually the complete tank setups have crappy lights and not the best filters.

Ok thank you. Do you know anyone that sells lids for them? My local petsmart and petco don't have any.

The 38gallon I was looking at comes with a penguin filter, is it not a good one?

Google “versa lid.”

I have them on all of my tanks after removing the original plastic ones.

Now I just buy tanks. Then custom filters, heaters, lids and lights.

A big fan of the Beamworks 6500 lights.

Pick 36 gallon, better equipped. However, the Bigger Aquarium, always the Better Aquarium.

IMO you should just buy the 40 gallon and buy better equipment if you have the money.
If you don't have the budget for better equipment than the 38g then just go with the complete 38g

I got fed up of always cleaning out the filter in my 5 gal now I use an old throttled down fluval 305 that adds 5l to my volume and can run at a trickle or a whirlpool and I don't expect to have to clean it out more than quarterly.

It's really up to you. If your budget is there. Then the 40 gallon would be best. You can then customize and have more room for your fish. Bigger is always better. But if you cannot decide, buy both and set up when you can.
