I was thinking of getting a bristle nose pleco but was wondering what is the minimum size tank for one. My local pet store also says if they ever get to big I could just exchange fish in for smaller ones because they only sell baby plecos.

25G at least I'd say.
A ridiculous advise of the LFS to me.
sell, sell, sell.

20-29 minimum. 20 long is better than a regular 20.

I think you can keep a bristlenose pleco in a 20, however they produce a lot of waste and should be kept with not many other fish as it would quickly become overstocked. I would say getting a 29 would be better though

I think your 10 gallon is too small but 20 gallon is the starting point for me.

However, I have been keeping them in 110g for ten years where they had a lot of place to explore. They also bred prodigiously, so much so that it became a nuisance.

I sold most of them and now have three in a 40g.

The exchange is a rip-off, because the 1 inch plecos are about $12.99 but the adult is about +$24.99. There are two types of sizes for an adult BN pleco, first there are the four inch ones, and then there are the six inch ones, the four inch BN plecos can be in a +20g but I would recommend for a six inch BN pleco that they can be in a +25g.

Thread is from august !

What two types are you talking about C4L?

BN's here often are available almost for free.

the thread was just at the top of the list, so I thought it was very recent, I am only stating that they can grow to two different sizes, 4" or 6".

Do you mean different in size males / females or a different types ?
I am not aware of the latter.
