What should I use to clean my hood filter and tank. I have heard oxyclean or vinegar. Any suggestions appreciated.

Vinegar is best. Don't get it in the tank and rinse the vinegar off good. Best not to use any soap close to your tank.

Will the vinegar kill germs?

Don't know if vinegar will kill germs or not but will get the white crusty water residue off the glass and hood.

It will not kill germs, at least not most, but like Carol said it will clean the white crusty off the glass. Just make sure you clean it off very very very well you want no residue on the glass of vinegar to get into the tank.

Sorry, I hope you don't mind that I'm posting my questions on this thread.

So, I'm wondering how to disinfect the hood if it had beenover a tank with sick fish. I mean, you can't exactly soak it in bleach...

You could wipe it down with bleach and then rinse it extremely well.

That's what I ended up doing, but thanks anyway.
