What plants to go with floating plants?

Currently planning on adding floating plants for my aquarium... I'm thinking of adding a betta fish in my 27g hex tank along with some neons and corys, and since my aquarium doesn't have a full lid, I'm worried the betta may jump out. Hoping floating plants would discourage it from jumping. So far I'm really liking the short roots of salvinia minima. Any other suggestions? Looking for a floating plant that is easy to control.

Also, since the floating plants would provide a good shade to my aquarium, I'm looking for more plants that is okay with the lower lighting... I already have some anubias and java fern that goes well with it, but I'm looking for more? Let me know some good ones!

 

guppy grass works good just floating around. Frogbit, water lettuce will provide good cover.

 

I agree with the water lettuce. Also, I don't have any yet, but I'm planning to try red root floater. It might be worth looking into.

 

Amazon frogbit is also a nice addition, but the roots are pretty big.

Could also try banana lilies or tiger lotus and allow lilies to float on the surface? The only thing that sticks down is the stem/stalk of each lily, and it forms a great mat on the surface.

 

Bettas and neons make very bad tank mates.

It would depend on the lights you have. With proper plant lights Amazon swords which are med light plants would work.

 

I have red root floaters in a 10 gallon shrimp tank and I love them. The roots aren’t too long but theyre a very pretty pinkish red. Looks beautiful with my cherry shrim.
