Hey folks, I'm new to saltwater and just established a 27 gallon reef cube with a lot of live rock. (my other tanks are a 120 gallon tropical, 45 gallon cichlids tank and a 20 gallon tetra tank) So far in the Saltwater tank, I have one clown, a serpent star, some soft corals, 2 snails and one hermit. What kind of other fish and inverts can I purchase that will eat the algae. I plan on getting a flame dwarf angel, two BangaiI Cardinals, several shrimp, more hermits, snails and corals. Starting kinda of slow. Any suggestions would be awesome. Thanks!

Well it depends on what kind of algea, but I would not count on anyfish or anything else to eat a lot of algea. Also just to make a note, the tank is kind of small thus keep an eye on how many and what type of fish you will keep in it.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if the tank could handle 4 fish including inverts. I'm so new to sw I just wasn't sure. The LFS said that would work.

You could have 4 fish total or maybe up to 6, but depends on what fish you are thinking about. I generally see inverts different then fish when it comes to stocking a tank. Also the biggest fish I would seggest would be a fish that does not get bigger then 4 inches, unless you plan to move him to a bigger tank.

Do you know what kind of algae it is?
Is it possible for you to post a picture of your tank?

Are you using RO/DI water for top offs and mixing saltwater? This is very important IMO for cutting down on algae.

I am using RO water. It looks like finger algae and algae plumes. I'm thinking of buying a sterilizer. Dose anyone know if those actually work well. I don't want to destroy my corolline algae.

It sounds like hair algae and bubble algae to me.

The Mexican Turbo Snails are amazing and have totally controlled the algae even on the glass! I highly recommend these snails.
