Just a plain red one suits me fine. My current one just happens to have some black markings.

Yeah, I think the Alphas are the ones that got me into swordtails. Alphas are amazing! Next to Alphas I'm going to say are the Cauliflowers and/or Sabertails. I really wished I had those.

Alphas are different from tuxedos .It is in the color pattern and the scales besides lacking the metallic sheen .

Thank you sir for the education. Might you have a suggestion or link where I can learn more about sword tail patterns?

This male was sold to me (with 2 females with identical markings / scales) by a LFS as "Tuxedos " Is that what they are?

Here are some of the top of the line swordtails

And Charles here is always a good source of info ;

You will find more accurate info if you search Xiphophorus helleri .

If you mix them with platies you can get Mickey Mouse swordtails, which I think are pretty cool. Never seen them in person, though

Swords are like Oscars for me... it’s as much about the shape as the colour. coralbandit those Alphas are stunning on both counts. I love em... along with a nice green, black, bright red, or pineapple. Never been too keen on wags and tuxedos, aesthetically. Seen (and kept) some nice mottled ones but that depends on the individual fish/pattern.

There are so many of them that I like when it comes to fancy strains of the swordtails. But to me, the cauliflower swordtail, tancho koi and the white swordtails would be the top favorites.
