Hello,

I just started to cycle a 135 gallon tank yesterday with minnows. Today this one fish has something on him. I ordered a test kit online and it has not arrived yet.

Does anyone know what is wrong with this fish?

How long will it take for the ammonia levels to rise?

Will I be ok for a few days until my test kit arrives?

Thanks,
Barry

it looks like it might be cotton wool disease but most likely is body fungus. i'd recommend treating him in a hospital tank with fungus clear if you want to clear it up. he acts, eats & swims normally?

hard to say exactly when ammonia will rise, it varies.. but shouldn't take too long. you should be ok until the testing kit arrives, but i'd probably treat the water with NovAqua+ or Prime until it does and then start the cycle if you're concerned about the levels spiking. otherwise you can let the cycle get started and probably will have ammonia on the rise by the time you get your kit.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. The test kit should be here today.
