Yesterday i noticed my betta had this white patch on her gills. It's very bright looking almost like illuminated. It's on both sides of her girls but the one side looks a lot brighter. Please help me fix this!!

Ive done a 25% water change as well.

I'm not sure if this is a part of her marble gene or not I'm just a little worried

Another look

Was it not there before? How long have you had the fish? It's not looking like a growth to me.

Ive had her for about 6 months. It wasn't there before.

It looks like iridescent coloring. A marble betta will change colors in its life. I have one too I’ll find a pic. Does it look blue under the light?

This is my boy and his cheek and back has the same color and sometimes it changes a tiny bit. It sometimes looks white or sometimes blue

Thank you so much! Your boy is stunning! Im glad to know she is ok and it is just a marble gene.

That iridescence coming through could just be because you're feeding it better or it's generally healthier than it was before (which stands to reason). I think if it were a dangerous growth (I had one die of a growth) it would stick out from its body like a lump, or there would be irregular scales.

It being just on one side calls that into question, but obviously the coloration isn't symmetrical so I can still see it as just being his colors coming in.

Thanks! If you have a light in your aquarium, you may notice that iridescent part really pop when she swims under the light. Super pretty
