What Is The Next Step For My Aquarium

So I recently had a betta pass due to an ammonia spike while I was away. I decided to finally start my shrimp tank and got a really good filter and heater, shrimp substrate and a few low tech live plants in a 10 gal.

I have the tank all set up and running smoothly, I've been doing a fishless cycle and my ammonia levels are down to .25 ppm but now I have very high nitrites at 5 ppm. So what's next? Do I wait for the nitrites to turn into nitrates or is there something I should be doing?

It's just a waiting game at this point. Once your ammonia is zero you may want to add a little more but that's about all you can do at this point.
