Definitely not a bichir, pectoral fin is not fleshy. It looks like an Emperor Snakehead (Channa marulioides)
I haven't kept this species before as I only have experience with another species Channa melasoma (I've raised them from fry caught in the wild) years ago. As with most Channa species, they're carnivorous and would eat small fish & insects in the wild; I fed mine earthworms & feeder fish back then. They can also breathe air and are jumpers, so a lid is a must and they can survive some hours out of water. And lastly, they can grow over a foot long.
