"I don't want to pay too much attention" ??? All aquariums need attention every day so that you as the owner can know if something is wrong in the tank. However do you mean special needs?

I suggest though, Convict cichlids.

OP said he didn't want to pay too much not that he didn't want to pay too much attention.

I'd say bolivian rams are known to be pretty hardy. They cost about $10 around me.

I have also heard from more experienced fish keepers than me that Bolivians are the most hardy Rams. I have three and they have all had no problems at all. Very pretty and friendly and get along with all my other community fish. The Rams chase each other sometimes but don't do any harm. All my rams love my Cory cats, they go well together.

Bolivians are far less overbred / inbred than German Rams with all colormorphs. That probably is the reason.

Agree with DoubleDutch, many of the fish you here that once was hardy or popular fish are becoming more vulnerable to dying and diseases. One of the popular examples are guppies and neons. With guppies this mainly concerns with fancy guppies however this applies to any of the other morphs, fancy guppies were seen as a hardy fish but now adays many people have had their guppies dying, of course sometimes it might be the owners fault but guppies aren't as hardy now due to inbreeding several times. Neons are a more common case. Now a days neons can be very sensitive and now we recommend going with cardinals. However not all neons have a weak immunity system. There are still healthy ones sold by breeders and such but they usually cost more. The more you inbreed usually you get a lot of offsprings who die or get sick easily. We can see this for humans, back when the royals use to in breed their kids usually had problems.

ok so go with the bolivians?

I think I am going to try and raise 2 bolivians 2 german blues and 2 germman golds and if it does not work I will go for only bolivians and later I will try it again

Mikrogeophagus altispinosus (Bolivians) and M. ramirezI (Orinoco Rams) have different temperature requirements, I would not mix them.

german blues are from Orinoco. From what I'm reading, the german blue, electric blue and golds are all mikrogeophagus ramirezi. the electric blue and gold being color morphs of the standard german blue. If that is really the case then the answer is both. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong

Now it gets tricky...just like the dragon blood or flowerhorn and even the guppies... this is a huge business and its all about profits...even if we have to inject a fish to make them glow..there has been so much cross and inbreeding done for so many decades...all fish has been weaken....alot of people dislike hybrids for this reason...are you open to the idea of african cichlids ?

I like the german blue rams myself..

Bolivian rams like much cooler water than German Blues, do shouldn't be mixed. Personally I'd go for Bolivian rams.

People keep german blues between 78 and 85...again I like 82 for them too....these fish go by MANY names...Street names and latin science names..very confusing...they are one of the most peaceful cichlid out there...

Too warm, IMO. I wouldn't keep them any higher than 76-77.

We can show links and sites all day long...many fish of all species can handle a swing of 4 degrees as long as it stay at 78...80...82...

Its not too warm in a gentleman.s way...ok answer ur own question by looking it up on the Internet....but believe..my information comes from hands on experience...not to sound mean to the person that said to warm...I do not want to be disrespectful to anyone....

Fish can handle it temporarily but not permanently in temps out of their range. They'll experience shortened lifespans and health issues. I already provided a very reputable source in the link above that shows 82 is not in their range at all.

Yes yes yes...the range is to high...my fault...just got off the phone...he likes to raise the temperature to promote breeding...not a fact...just like live food might promote breeding...or more water changes...no facts...just stuff people try...BUT 77 to 79 is the ideal temperature...I was confused with other fish I had many years ago...I was wrong...omg did I just admit that....laughing...sorry

Look on the Internet for blue german rams....fish lore has a site

I'd go with seriouslyfish and fishbase. Keeping them somewhere in the middle of their range is best. The previous experienced members also already explained that bolivian rams need cooler water than blue/gold rams.

There are many sites out there with the wrong information...including fishlore's information site. The best and reliable ones are Fishbase.se and Seriously Fish as mentioned. For plecos, catfish, and corys Planet Catfish is the site you can also rely on!

The best way is to search by the scientific name in the Genus+Species field.

The way I look up fish is to Google them. If you Google 'German ram fishbase', this site pops up.
