What is the Highest GH You've had Neon Tetras Adjust to?

Hi, I was wondering what everyone's experiences with neon tetras have been like. I really have my heart set on some for my new 29g but I have a pH of 8.2 and a high GH (don't know what it is as I don't have a GH test kit.) I heard someone say on another forum that it's not the pH that matters so much but the GH. I was just wondering if anyone has had neon tetras adapt to a pH/GH like mine.

Hi

It would be good to know your GH/KH.

Just for reference. The neons where I work are adjusted to PH 8.0. KH is 7 or 8 dKH, GH is 14 dGH if i remember correctly for that bay.

So 250ppm GH if my maths are correct. It's a hard water area here. I also have rummy nose in home tank. 9dKH, 12dGH. They are fine.

In conclusion I think neons will adapt to your water but it may not be the best for them and ultimately they may be less long lived.

I don't have a GH/KH test kit so I can't give their levels. Sorry. All I know is that my water is hard. I have well water.
What if I managed to find neons that were breed in water sort of like mine?

Same here, my pH fluctuates around 8, my last KH 8/GH 14.
My Neons come from Petsmart, the oldest ones are in my tank since the beginning 1 1/2 years ago without detriment.
My beginner mistakes like overfeeding were the bigger Neon killer rather than the water parameters.

They won’t breed in hard water.

I don't really want them to breed. I just want them as pets.
