What Is The Filter Like Area For On The Top Of My Powerhead?

had this thing for a while and I don't even think I have the box anymore to read it. I'm not sure what the vent like area is for. Does it have anything to do with placement? like is it reccomended submerged? or at the top of your tank with the vent out? . I would have put this thread in tank equipment but "powerheads" werent listed anywhere as a subject

Can you post a picture of it?

Obviously you want it submerged, you don’t want it running dry. But it would depend on the kind of powerhead.

Well yeah I know not to run it dry but I just mean the vent itself poking out of the water. Man I just want to know what purpose it serves. I have a Top Fin powerhead 50

Could you post a picture?

I'm not sure what you mean by vent. Are you talking about the output nozzle or intake strainer?

Are there actual gaps between the slits? If not, then it's probably just for looks. I'm not sure why it would have a vent there at all. As for how much you have to submerge the pump, you want most of the body of the powerhead underwater so it doesn't overheat.

Yeah I guess I wasn't smart enough to actually check if I can actually get inside. Which iicant. looks more like indented 4 cosmetic purposes I guess?
