What is normal Betta behaviour?

So I picked up my first fish today! It’s a female betta, in a 10G with some Snails.

What sort of behaviour should I expect the first few days? I don’t plan to feed it until tomorrow and I turned the tank light on 1 hour after putting the Betta in.

They may be either really shy the first couple of days or super active with all the extra space they are getting. Bettas all have different personalities so it's impossible to tell how they are going to act.

Mine keeps swimming in the same direction in one corner, is this okay?

Did you cycle the tank before adding the fish or is it a second hand tank/fish off of someone.

Tank is all cycled? Post a pic when you can so we can see your new bebe.

Check your filter flow. If it's just come from a stagnant cup to a filtered 10 gallon then that could be one reason.

They can be moody too but I agree, let your fish adjust.

Cycled tank
She may also be able to see her reflection. I had a female try to chase her reflection around the one side if the tank.

Should I move her away? I thought she might be doing this

Tank‘s all cycled. She was exploring a bit prior to this behaviour, and now hasn’t explore elsewhere. A photo of her is proving to be difficult to take!

Thank you! She has a blue/purple colouration on her tail, I was told she is quite a rare type from my LFS.

It's important to have a storm trooper helmet in a betta tank. I wish more people would realize this.

She'll be fine. More plants would be great at some point. I'm sure you want to look at her but it would be best to turn out the light- she'll calm down.

Enjoy your betta!

Thank you! Should I leave the light off for the rest of the day?

Regarding the light...up to you. If you were trying to relax, would you want someone turning on the light and disturbing you? Probably my weird way of looking at things.

Now, what will you name your fish?

I have turned it for an hour or two, and then ei leave it off for the rest of the night. She’s still not coming to the front of the tank

haha I’ve decided to name her Leia!

Sounds a bit like glass surfing and it can be caused by stress. My male betta did this for about a week before he was comfortable enough to explore the whole tank. Now he freaks out when he sees me and rushes to the front of the tank to beg for food.

Should I be worried? Is there anything in particular I should be doing?

Leia turned out to be a Male! He’s all good, but I had to change his name-He’s Skywalker now

Much more comfortable around the tank and me, knows when it’s feeding time and where I feed him etc-All good thank you!
