A king betta comes from betta splendens that were the biggest and continuously bred over time to be larger. They are usually plakats. Some people say they are a strain of the betta imbellis, so I am not sure here which betta they truly are (imbellis vs splenden). I lean towards splenden. I recently got one and I adore him...he is a little over 3 inches long. He happens to be very well behaved with his tank mates, which are some ghost shrimp, a snail, and a school of chilI rasboras. However they can still be aggressive like any other betta. They all have their own personality so it comes down to each fish as an individual. Only thing different about this betta is they should be housed in a bigger tank due to their size. I would say for a normal betta 2.5-5g is the minimum. A King betta should be in a 5-10g minimum.

Pretty sure they’re just big bettas. I have a “normal” female halfmoon that grew larger than half the “king” males I see lol

I heard they get up to 6 inches long. I've seen ones that were easily 4 inches at the pet store.
