I believe this plant I have here is water sprite.. Or at least that's what my lfs called it. It's looking pretty sad. I may have planted it wrong or something. but it looked pretty crappy when i bought it too. What can i do to improve it?
Actually the stems are water wisteria (Hygrophila difformis), not water sprite (Ceratopteris sp). The stems you purchased were emersed grown (in air not in water) which is fairly common for water wisteria these days. What you are seeing is the stems are losing the emersed grown leaves (since they cannot live submerged in water). What you should see in a week or two is new leaves emerging from the stems which are much larger and frillier than the leaves you have now. In fact, I think I see new leaves starting to sprout at the leaf / stem junction of the current leaves. Just be patient, dose your ferts, and the new leaves should appear.
