15 Gallon Tank What is causing my condensation?

HI everyone,

Not sure if this is in the correct place or not, if it isn't any helping moving this to the correct place will be appreciated. My tank has been cycling for 10 days now without any major hiccups, the problem is that now I have woken up today to find the inside of my tank is heavily condensated. When I opened the lid it dripped back down into the tank and the top of the glass was condensated too. Now, is the water or the aquarium too hot? The thermostat was set to 27 Degrees Celsius, so I turned it down to 25 Degrees, and the light is on for 12 hours a day, but not during the night. However, it could have been there last night I just may not have noticed it. If the light is heating the water as well, could this be causing the temperature to get too hot and condensate?

What could I do, other than lower the thermostats? The thermometer still reads 27 Degrees with the heater at 25 Degrees, it has been like that since 8am.

No worries The water in your tank is warmer than the air in the room and the hood of your tank, much like dew forming on your car in the morning (the water in the air is warmer than your cold car). I have condensation on the inside of each of my tanks (ranging from 75-82 degrees).

Hope this helps!

Is it no cause for concern then? That would be a relief. It can get a bit chilly here especially in the evenings and the other half does like to have the window open when she sleeps, so the room can get a bit cold, but not enough to change the water temperature (I deliberately woke up to check several times in the first few nights, otherwise the tank would have had to be moved).

Thanks for the speedy response.

I also get condensation from large temperature changes in my room. I have the tank thermometer set to 75 but often it's closer to 80 because my room gets the full force of the sun all day long. When it's 90+ outside my room gets into the 80's. As it cools down in the evening the condensation forms. It will definitely take quite a while for temperature changes to effect the temperature of the water in the tank. You'll likely find your water will stay warmer like mine does, even in the cool evenings.

Here's a picture of my 55 gallon tank, which is kept at about 82 degrees. It looks like this 100% of the time. I also have a 2.5 gallon that is only at about 75, and it always has condensation on the top, too.

Definitely totally normal and nothing to worry about.

Okay good. The only thing that worried me is that the hood houses my light, and if any condensation got into the light. The connectors are protected by a guard, however you can never be too safe with regards to water and electricity and even more so when any shock could cause potential death to the inhabitants of the tank. I will monitor it closely but thanks for the help, not as worried now

That is a valid concern to have, but the housing should protect the wiring from any condensation. I haven't had any problems yet! IM more worried the lamp will fall in the tank..

I had that problem when I added a bubble wand. The added surface agitation caused more bubbles to pop at the surface, letting the water hit the cover. If I open my hood and look at it at eye level, I can see it occur, but it's difficult to notice otherwise.
