HI all,

I have a sick Platy who looks very ill.

She is very fat (I thought it may have been pregnant but maybe not) her scales are sticking out and she is on the top of the water gasping for air or panting.

The water conditions are fine and no problems with any of the other fish.

I have attached a couple of pictures, hope they help

Yeah, it looks like dropsy. There's not much that can be done for dropsy. Some prefer to euthanise before it gets too far in, some are not able to do that at all and let the fish live out the remaining days.

Sorry hon.

Sorry for the short reply, had to run out.
It has to do with fluid retention in the fish.
The fish is no longer able to excrete water as fast as it takes it in.

Dropsy. It's not fun at watch at all. I recently had a molly pass away from this. It took over a week to pass. I didn't know you could euthanize a fish, if I had I probably would have because it was so sad to watch him go like that.

Definitely dropsy. You can tell by the pineconing of the scales. This is usually a symptom of the last stages of dropsy. IME, if one of my fish starts to pinecone, I euthanize the fish as it is to late to treat effectively.

If it is Dropsy you could try an Epson Salt bath for a few days. Put her in a hospital tank and treat the water with about 3 table spoons of Epson Salt per gallon of water and leave here there for three or four days. Epson Salt has properties that will help draw the fluids from her body like it does in humans. Epson Salt isn’t a sea or kitchen salt and it is used to help with swelling in humans and I have used it on fish lots. Sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn’t.

She could be severally constipated also. Have you observed her pooping? If not you might try feeding her a few peas to see if it helps relieve her. You could also combine the two treatments to see if you see any improvements over the next few days.
