What Fish Should I Add Now?

Currently have 4 dwarf gouramis, 4 high fin platys and 2 angels (no aggression problems at all, all of my fish get along fine). I'm trying to figure out what my next addition to the tank should be and I got no clue. Anybody got any ideas?

Welcome to Fishlore

What size tank are these fish in? And what sex are the DG's?

What are the dimensions?

Personally, I think you have too much at the top with the angels and DG's. I'd just do 1 DG with the 2 angels and rehome the other 3 DG's. You'll also likely run into aggression issues between the 2 males.

You could add a couple of mid dwelling schooling fish like rummy nose tetras, diamond tetras, lemon tetras or black neons? A large shoal of corys or kuhlI loaches would be nice for the bottom if you have sand substrate or smooth gravel.

30" wide, 18" deep, 24" high

I've had the DGs for 4-5 months and I haven't had any issues with them being aggressive at all there's an occasional chase but that's usually between a male and female and it's over before it even gets started. I lucked out and got 4 VEEERRRY chill DGs, I wanted to get one or two more but I don't wanna push my luck with aggression. As far as the top being too crowded my fish don't stick to one spot of the tank more then any other they all sorta just go wherever they feel like at that time. The top is usually only crowded during feeding.

I might go for a school of tetras but I've had them before so I wanna switch it up and get something different. Same with corys I had a shoal of 7 albino corys.

Red cherry barbs seem like they would be cool to have a decent size group of but I'm not too sure of them..

With those dimensions, I'm afraid it's even more overstocked. A 30" long tank is really only suitable for 1 angelfish and MAYBE 1 DG though I think even that might be pushing it. They might not be spending a lot of time up in the top region as it is because it's cramped. And as your angels get larger, it will get even more crowded. Having less space to claim territories and get away from other fish will increase aggression that you may not be seeing right now.

Personally, I would rehome the 1 angel and the DGs before adding more fish. Or keep a male and female DG pair plus the platies and rehome the rest.

Most of the time the Angels and gouramis aren't even near each other unless they're "playing" (following each other, riding the current from the filter etc.) so space doesn't seem to be an issue with them they also have plenty of hiding spaces and territories already long established. My platys are more aggressive then any of the other fish lol they're the only ones I've ever caught nipping or relentlessly chasing another fish. Taking into consideration what you said tho I might wait and see how things play out over the next couple months. I can always just add more ghost shrimp lol
