You need to have a larger tank for the shark, at least a 55 gallon.

I had anticipated that... He was originally in a friend's tank with another rts and so was dominated and lost all colour. That's why I took him on.. He has got his colour back and seems happy for the minute but I will need to upgrade in the near future!

I've had a lot of green spot algae build up though.. I have cleaned it off but it keeps coming back... I need some fish that feed on it ideally

I agree, the shark needs a bigger tank. What are the dimensions of the tank?

I'm terrible with judging stocking, but maybe you could "borrow" something that will eat green spot algae, but most algae eaters only eat soft algae, and from what I know green spot is a hard algae. My best tips are more frequent gravel vacuuming, less direct sunlight, less lighting, and feed a bit less. Also, I see you don't know what the nitrogen cycle is, I strongly recommend looking into that
