What Do Your Apistogramma Love To Eat?

hey fish fam,

I just got a few apistogramma agassizI fire red and i'm having some trouble feeding them with the silver tips beating them to the food. I see them eating 2 - 3 flakes but just not a lot. I have three questions:

- what do your apistos love to eat? (please give food and brand)
- do they tend to eat very little?
- how do you get food to them with crazy active dither fish?

thanks!

Turkey Baster, but I normally don't keep my apistos with hyper fish either.

I'm new to apistos and have mine with neon & black tetras. My apistos are definitely better with sinking food. So far I've had them go enthusiastically for:

Bug Bites Bottom Feeder Formula for small to medium fish
Bug Bites cichlid formula for small to medium fish
HikarI micro pellets
frozen brine shrimp

All these foods appeal to the teras also, but sink quickly and are ignored by the tetras once "sunk" and the apistos seem to get their fill foraging on the bottom. But again, I'm new to apistos, having had them only a few weeks.

yeah silver tips are a bit more active then I would have liked. do you have recommendations for really small schooling fish?

thank you! I appreciate your help
Mine like the tetra prima sinking pellets and blood worms (on Saturdays) at first mine also struggled between my angels and danios and ram for food, but they make sure they get their fill now

how do you know they've had enough food? I find it hard to tell with all the other fish going for the food.

I've been keeping apistos for about 2 years now and they seem to really enjoy the tetra procolor and tetra prima the frozen food they like blood worm but they really love that artemia and sprilina ++ from Ocean nutrition

In regards to eating little mine eat a bit I normally feed them some in the morning and some at night before lights off

Getting food to them with active dither fish I would agree with Mark medium to quick sinking food/oellets are better since they'll be more likely to pick at it while its falling or at the bottom of the tank rather then the top unless your keeping them alone then it would be ok for the foods that sit at the top awhile before sinking

I don't worry too much about the exact amount they eat, I just make sure that they all are eating something at least. I feed them daily so I know they aren't starving. If I feed them either blood worms or freeze dried tubifex worms they definitely get enough to eat till they're no longer interested
